Samenvatting

The work reports the main results of a field study for assessing the role of local traffic emissions on air quality at a kerbside station within the urban area of Milan. Three monitoring campaigns were performed at a representative site in both winter and summer weekly periods. During the study traffic flow volumes and composition were measured simultaneously with a wide range of pollutants typical of the traffic source, including either conventional (CO, NOx, SO2, total suspended particulates as well as PM10 and PM25) than trace pollutants, namely speciated VOC3, phenols, nitrophenols, benzene and PAH. The combined analysis of the measured air quality data with vehicle flows and meteorological parameters provided indications on the contribution of local traffic and on the background pollution levels typical of the urban area.
