Samenvatting

The paper describes the traffic signalling necessary to provide priority to light rail in traffic. The paper describes the principles embodied in the equipment contracted to control traffic and light rail vehicles with effect from 8.8.1988 in the new town of Tuen Mun. The novelty of the application arises from: (A) the high flows of up to 100 light rail vehicles per hour entering a junction, (B) the complex route pattern, (C) the size (20 or 40 metre long)and speed (up to 80 kph)of the vehicles and (D) the requirement to provide priority and ensure a specified journey time.
