Individuals and freight are travelling greater and greater distances as movement between locations becomes easier and faster. Travellers, whether by rail, road, air or sea, or any combination of the four, want to know more and more detailed information about all aspects of their journey. This paper describes the findings of user surveys to determine the actual requirements of the travellers and the infrastructure owners. It also explains how these requirements are being met by the development of the ROMANSE Traffic and Travel Information Centre (TTIC) in Hampshire/Southampton. The paper outlines the systems introduced within the EUROSCOPE/ROMANSE project and how the project aims to provide travellers with timely, accurate and relevant information for both private and public transport networks. It also highlights the experiences that have been observed through the implementation of a co-ordinated TTIC.
