The Hanshin Expressway Public Corp. has been developing and extending its traffic surveillance and control system since 1969. Operating this system, the Corporation is performing traffic control strategies aiming to maximize utilization of the expressway and to increase level of service on the expressway. The system uses vehicles detectors, television cameras, motorist aid phones, variable message signs and computer systems.
