Samenvatting

There is an increasing demand for traffic data on the number and type of vehicles traversing a given selection of road, and on axle weight, speeds and spacings. Such information is necessary for the development of traffic policies, for studies of road safety and for the planning of programmes of maintenances and new road construction. This paper describes some of the techniques and equipment used to collect traffic data in the past, and discuss the various electronic and microcomputer methods currently available.
