Samenvatting

One approach of evaluating roundabout performance based on traffic parameters is by video taping technique. Traffic parameters that are normally considered and measured are vehicle type, speed, gap and others. This paper describes the technique of capturing traffic images using Portable Vision Based Traffic Analyser (PVBTA) and use Semi-Automatic Video Analyser (SAVA) and Video Based Traffic Analysis (TRAIS) software for data reductions. Traffic movement at a conventional roundabout in Shah Alam was taken as case study. Sample of data reduction and analysis taken at the weaving length of the conventional roundabout were presented and discussed. Problems related to the techniques were highlighted, however the main advantage of this methodology of data collection enable visual assessment of site situation. Besides, the information can be retrieved whenever required and can be an input for model development to support the design and traffic operation at roundabout. (Author/publisher)
