Samenvatting

Results of a speed and delay study using a 6-ton truck on a 20 per cent sample of arterial routes in Melbourne are given. Relationships between travel speed and the time stopped, the number og gear changes per mile and the number of brake applications per mile were developed. Truck speeds are shown to be simply related to car speeds. A regression analysis of car travel speeds in relation to distance from the city centre resulted in equations which appear to be statistically significant.
