It is widely recognized that horizontal road markings have improved traffic flow, encouraged lane discipline, and increased safety at junctions and intersections. Road engineering improvements involving carriageway markings and road signs at accident blackspots have helped to decrease accidents, and descriptions are given of two such sites in Nottinghamshire and Hertfordshire
