Samenvatting
This paper focuses upon the role of the traffic officer in promoting road safety through coercion of motorists. This coercive function is compared with other modes of safety facilitation, including traffic education, driver training, and publicity. Relative effectiveness of various modes is compared with public perceptions of the functions and motivations of their practitioners.
