Traffic management research at the University of California.

This paper is an attempt to review a twenty year research program of highway traffic management at the University of California in which the author has participated. The research program has produced 200 technical reports and over 50 computer programs have been developed. Over 100 individuals have made significant contributions to this program. The research program and this paper are organized and presented in terms of five operating environments: signalised intersections, arterial networks, dense highways and freeway corridors.
