Samenvatting

This paper describes the development and evaluation of a new traffic management strategy for a future open e-Lane scenario which is one of Traffic management Strategies for automated transport systems developed in theEC Citymobil project. The scenario is regarded as a migratory stage towards full automation, where dual mode vehicles in automated driving mode share the road space with other manual (driver controlled) vehicles. The mixed traffic conditions will limit the possible benefits of traffic operationfrom driving automation unless complementary measures are introduced. To explore the potential for such measures, a new traffic management strategywas developed to optimize open e-Lane operation. The impacts were investigated using a be-spoke microscopic simulation model. It was found that under the new traffic management scheme, open e-Lane operation can be improved in terms of both travel time and capacity.
