The Traffic Microscope : an integrated system for studying travel demand, transport system performance and environmental impacts.

This paper describes the need for a systematic approach to transport and traffic modelling and analysis for proper consideration of the needs of travellers (the users of transport systems) and the traffic and environmental impacts of land use developments and of revised transport systems management plans. It suggests that a hierarchical system of models and techniques is a valid and useful approach to adopt in these circumstances.
