The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,158 motorcyclists in 2003. Additional statistics on motorcyclist involvement in traffic accidents in 2003 and motorcyclist use of helmets are provided in this traffic safety fact sheet.
