Samenvatting

This Transportation Research Record contains 24 papers on the subject of traffic signal systems and regional systems management. Among the specific topics addressed are the following: detecting bicycles with inductive loop detectors; noncoordinated phases in coordinated traffic signal systems; traffic detection schemes at signalized intersections; flow-based traffic signal control; detection-control system for isolated high-speed signalized intersections; simultaneous gap-out logic; weather-responsive signal timing; saturation flow at signalized intersections; design method for traffic control programs; an integrated arterial signal control model; traffic signal phase truncation in the event of a traffic flow restriction; robust real-time progression evaluation; system optimal signal optimization; microscopic simulation model calibration and validation; optimal detector location for transit signal priority; transition methods in traffic signal control; platoon identification and accommodation system; variable speed limit system near bottleneck on German autobahn; arterial travel time data collection using GPS; decision model for priority control of traffic signals; purchasing travel time data; linking planning and operations to improve regional mobility and safety; improving decentralized urban transportation systems; and weather integration in transportation management centers. The 2006 series of the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board consists of approximately 820 papers selected from 2,800 submissions after rigorous peer review. The peer review for each paper published in this volume was coordinated by the sponsoring committee acknowledged at the end of the text; members of the sponsoring committees for the papers in this volume are listed on page II. Many of these papers were presented at the 85th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board in January 2006. (Author/publisher)
