Samenvatting

Obtaining an accurate estimation of the traffic state in a traffic network is fundamental for traffic management and information services. This paper describes a traffic state estimation procedure for motorways utilizing both stationary and mobile sensor data. The dynamics of traffic flow in terms of aggregated or averaged traffic variables are idealized by the first-order Lighthill-Whitham-Richards (LWR) model. A probabilistic adaptation of the LWR model designed for incorporation of mobile sensor data is presented. The testing environment using the microscopic simulation tool AIMSUN, several applications, and an analysis of added value is also illustrated. For the covering abstract see E134653.
