A decision support system was developed to evaluate the acceptability of a new urban transport project. The financing of urban transport projects and the criteria used to evaluate urban transport projects are considered. An analysis of single variables (supply, demand, investment costs, operation and maintenance costs, social benefits and time savings, economic and financial indicators) and a combinatory analysis of variables (demand/capacity, benefits/demands, investment/benefits, demand/investment, passenger profit) were used to set ranges of variation for each variable in the decision support system. Graphics were also included in the decision support system. The decision support system was used to evaluate the acceptability of the new tramway (Trambaix) in Barcelona, Spain, for financing.
