Samenvatting

A Waste and Energy Management Policy outlines Transit’s policy commitment to managing energy consumption and waste associated with Transit’s business in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. This paper focuses on the application of the policy to Transit’s on-road activities. WEMP aims to meet Transit’s responsibilities in strategic government policies that guide waste reduction and energy efficiency. The paper also discusses how Transit’s policy objectives fit within the legislative context of the Land Transport Management Act 2003. Practical examples demonstrate that waste and energy management is being integrated throughout Transit’s operations. This paper provides case studies and explores the key elements behind practical applications of innovative approaches to waste and energy management on-road. International experience is presented where relevant examples show other road controlling authorities achieving practical application of resource efficiency.
