Samenvatting

As outlined in the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration's Research and Technology Five-Year Plan, the vision for FTA is to create "Integrated transportation technology producing high quality mobility into the 21st Century". This vision is supported by a mission to "partner with the transportation industry in establishing preeminence in U.S. transit technology, institutions, and customer services to increase the quality and level of transit services". The key to meeting the vision and mission is the emphasis on developing integrated systems, both on-board vehicles and between vehicles and the infrastructure. This paper discusses the recent progress and key next steps that FTA is pushing in terms of systems integration. For the covering abstract see ITRD E209471.
