Samenvatting

This paper looks at some typical trips on a transit system in the 21st Century, following the Tom Orrow family as they interact with technologies that have been developed for everyone, including the special needs of travellers with baggage, parents with baby strollers, elderly passengers and persons with disabilities. It is envisioned that transit systems will be planned along the guiding principles of: enabling, not disabling; inclusion, not exclusion; integration, not segregation; consultation, not alienation. An overview is presented of transit technologies encountered on typical trips such as home to work, to recreational functions, and to medical facilities. (A)
