Samenvatting

This article suggests that hydrogen offers the best alternative to gasoline fuels in the future in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and U.S. dependency on imported oil. But it also poses the greatest challenges of any alternative fuel. The author describes the problems that must be resolved before hydrogen could be used on a large scale, such as production, storage, and distribution. Issues such as supply and demand are discussed, and the first steps that the U.S. must take in order to make the transition to hydrogen are offered. The author also describes the costs involved and presents a realistic timeline for hydrogen energy technologies to enter mass markets.
