Samenvatting

Elderly people in England encounter several barriers to mobility and practical ways of minimizing such barriers are discussed. Walking is examined in relation to traffic and hazards in the road system, increased distance from essential facilities, and difficult access to public buildings and public transport. The following aspects of driving are considered: cost of motoring, license holding, getting in and out of cars, and parking difficulties.
