Samenvatting

Adequate transport and mobility are essential for the well-being of all Victorians. Ensuring that people who are unable to drive can access some form of transport is an extremely important issue that has broader road safety, social participation and health implications. RACV surveyed 800 people living in rural Victoria and found that most relied on their private car for transport and many were not satisfied with the transport services in their area. RACV believes that to improve transport and mobility in rural Victoria the State Government needs to make this area a priority. Specifically, all forms of transport, including community transport, should operate in a co-ordinated and integrated manner and transport services must ensure they cater for the needs of the community. Planning for future increases in demand for transport due to the ageing population needs to be undertaken as a priority. More specific recommendations are included in the report. (Author/publisher)
