Samenvatting
The distortionary effects of land use and transport policies applied during the apartheid era in South Africa produced cities which are spatially dispersed. The cities are inefficient with respect to circulation and movement, particularly by means of public transport. The distortions are described after which the paper moves on to discuss policies which have been defined to achieve 'sustainable' urban restructuring. Measures which have been proposed to support public transport are analysed. (A) The French title of the paper is: "La contribution des transports à la réstructuration urbaine".
