Samenvatting

The economic and financial implications of government or individual decisions about urban development or life-style options are essential for good decision-making. Increasing urban infrastructure and service costs call for improved information to guide decision-making. A review of reports relating to the economic and financial implications of urban form was undertaken by Transport WA and the Ministry for Planning in order to scope suitable methodologies and determine appropriate questions for a detailed research study in the Perth Metropolitan Region to provide information for strategic planning. The survey revealed few recent studies that had addressed direct, indirect and external costs in strategic terms.
