A way in which transport forecasting models could become an integral part of transport planning process is suggest. The different categories of forecasting models are assessed, in terms of their reliability as inputs to transports planning. The relationship between transport forecasting programs and macro-models is then developed, followed by a rationale of transport forecasting models as sectorial structures.
