Samenvatting

TMAPs, or Transport Management and Accessibility Plans, have been in existence in Sydney for about six years now. It is timely to review the history and evolution of TMAPs, and to consider options for their improvement. This paper reviews the evolution of TMAPs and examines whether they have achieved the original objectives which were set when TMAPs were first developed. It draws on the experience of the writer in both the preparation of the TMAP guidelines and detailed involvement in a wide range of significant TMAPs undertaken in Sydney. It concludes that TMAPs have largely achieved the original objectives, but that it is now time to rethink these objectives in order to further enhance this valuable transport planning tool. A range of suggested improvements are put forward for consideration. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E213376.
