This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes over 70 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) which demonstrate recent developments in member countries resulting from the common transport policy of the European Union. Amongst these are the emerging Trans European Networks (TENs) for motorways, combined (multimodal) freight transport, and high speed trains. other subjects covered include urban transport initiatives, air transport, policies to control the environmental impacts of transport, and applications of transport telematics. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1994 and 1996. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
