Samenvatting

On October 1-2, 2002, the U.S. Department of Transportation's Center for Climate Change and Environmental Forecasting hosted a workshop of leading experts and decision makers to discuss the potential impacts of climate change on transportation. Convened at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., the workshop had a twofold purpose: (1) to consider the implications of a changing climate on the future of transportation--and how the transportation community could prepare to avoid or adapt to these potential impacts; and (2) to gain input and perspectives on the research necessary to understand these impacts. This article presents an overview of what science suggests about the implications of climate change for transportation, along with a summary of the results of the workshop. (Author/publisher)
