Samenvatting

TRANSYT is an off-line computer program for determining how best to coordinate fixed-time traffic signal timings in a network of roads for which average traffic flows are known. TRANSYT/9 is the latest development of the program and it has been designed to run on microcomputers. The main improvements are the use of menus and the addition of extra programs to assist traffic engineers to study their networks. Three new programs have been added. These are: i) an interactive editor to create and modify input data files (called edittr); ii) a program for trying different stage orders (called STAGOR); and iii) an interactive program for showing queue against time in the cycle, and performance-index against offset-difference graphs for individual links (called GRAPH). The optimisation methods used have not changed significantly compared with the previous version, TRANSYT/8. Notable features in the new programs include: the use of default values and help messages in edittr; the automatic creation of data files containing different stage orders in stagor; and the facility to alter stage-change times for individual junctions in GRAPH. Executable versions of TRANSYT/9 can be purchased from TRRL (UK only) or from consultants MVA-systematica (outside the UK). (A)
