Samenvatting

Trip origin, destination and purpose are discussed. The assumption that the transportation disadvantaged were confined to small residential "pockets" was found to be unjustified. The dispersion of trip destinations among the poor for purposes other than work has not been widely recognized. The importance of non-work trips is especially significant for the nonworking poor such as the elderly, the young and the low income housewife. The limited information on car-pooling indicates that it accounts for a large percentage of the automobile trips by the poor.
