Samenvatting

This paper examines travel demand and behavioural issues affecting road safety at five schools in the City of Stonnington. In 2003, the City of Stonnington appointed Hyder Consulting to investigate and identify appropriate physical engineering and behavioural changes that could be implemented at primary schools to improve safety and traffic flow. In addition, the City of Stonnington wanted to understand user behaviour in order to identify issues associated with how people act/behave around the school environs and possible behavioural changes that could be considered for implementation. The key objectives of the study were to: 1. Determine the extent of traffic, parking and behavioural problems in the study areas; and 2. Recommend appropriate measures to address the problems identified, giving consideration to the City of Stonnington Road Safety Strategy.
