Samenvatting

This paper examines obstacles in the use of public transportation related to vision, hearing, and cognitive/emotional disabilities based on recent TDC (Transport Development Centre) studies. The emphasis is on travel terminals rather than on vehicles. Disabilities are compared in terms of: 1) the nature of travel obstacles and 2) the appropriateness of various solutions. Cognitive/emotional disabilities were found to present a more varied set of difficulties than vision or hearing and are therefore described in some detail. Facilities, equipment, services, procedures, and training are each considered as classes of solutions. The implementation of solutions is considered and directions for future efforts are discussed.
