Travel information from idea to product : identifying successful information services. For years we believe that travel information services are not only desired by travellers but they may also cause behavioural changes. Providing travellers with adequate travel information on public transport modes should thus encourage them to use the public transport more frequently. However, the reality is somewhat different; most travel information services are not successful in reaching the traveller. Several reasons can be identified for this, though we believe that one of the most important reasons is that the wishes of the different traveller types are not sufficiently met. For example, the service should take into account that one traveller type needs assistance during the entire trip while another type only requires information when an unexpected delay occurs. The goal of this paper is to describe and discuss the link between traveller type and their information need. (Author/publisher)
