Fatal and serious accidents occurring during the years 1954 to 1963 have been examined to see whether the proportion such accidents which occur at junctions had changed during the period. On roads with a speed limit well over half these accidents occur at junctions, while on roads without a speed limit the proportion is over one quarter but there is no marked tendency for these proportions to change over the period considered. although on roads with a speed limit there was some tendency for the proportion involving two vehicles to increase between 1954 and 1958. On roads with a speed limit, accidents at T or Y junctions which involve two vehicles on different toads form an increasing proportion of all accidents and also of all two-vehicle accidents.
