A trip end facility for cyclists can be defined as a provision which benefits cyclists at journey origins and destinations such as the workplace, retail outlets and entertainment centres. To investigate the relative importance of such facilities a range of research techniques including direct contact with retailers and developers and a self-completion questionnaire for staff were used. Suggestions are made for a hierarchy of trip end provision. Most providers of trip end facilities recognise the importance of changing the image of cycling and all case studies used extensive publicity material in addition to physical provision. This material is reviewed using an evaluation framework, and valuable advice for further promotions is given. (A
