Samenvatting

Fast food restaurants are a relatively new but rapidly growing concept inSaudi Arabia. This paper reports on a study to develop trip generation rates at fast food restaurants in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Data collected in this study was grouped into two categories: office data and field data. Office data included the area of the fast food facility and the number of employees at the facility. The field data included the number of parking stalls available at the facility, the availability of drive-through windowsand traffic volume data. Results showed that vehicle trip rates were notsignificantly different with respect to the type of food served, the presence of a drive-through window and origin. A comparison of the average vehicle trip rates with those reported in the Institute of Transportation Engineers' Trip Generation manual revealed that the rates included in the Trip Generation manual were much higher than those found in the Saudi Arabian study.
