Samenvatting

This article describes the use of a computerised model to design a scheme of linked MOVA traffic signals at a roundabout near the town of Plymouth, south-west England. The roundabout often suffered from peak hour congestion. MOVA adaptive control was chosen but it was necessary to ensure that extra subsequent delays were not created and that bus priority could be enabled. The modelling program used to test this was the TSUK emulator, which features the Traffic Queue Simulator (TQS). This allows diagrammatic representation of the intersection including flow, merge and split points, and signalised stop lines. Simulation of traffic flow can then be run for different scenarios. The controller configuration was tested using a MOVA model. The simulations showed improved efficiency of the junction with MOVA from fixed-time signals, and journey times for each approach could be compared.
