Samenvatting

This article details the features of the public/private partnership employed in the London Underground railway network, UK. The company Tube Lines is responsible for the maintenance, renewal and upgrade of three underground lines, the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. A whole life approach to asset management had been implemented, enabling engineers to intervene proactively before an asset fails. The technology and equipment behind the communications systems provide passenger information and security facilities, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) has been introduced to integrate and monitor communications assets, with automated procedures for alerts or faults. It is hoped to expand SCADA to include other infrastructure assets. Investment has also been made in enterprise systems to enable more effective asset management by monitoring asset condition and optimising maintenance. (Author/publisher).
