Samenvatting

It has been suggested that problem behaviours in adolescents, including drink driving, occur together as a result of underlying psychosocial factors. This study investigates the typological characteristics of adolescent drink drivers to determine whether they are a homogenous group. Four categories of data are used in the cluster analysis: a) delinquency, b) alcohol use measures, c) driving-related measures and d) demographic factors. The data were gathered through self-administered, anonymous questionnaires completed by students in grades 7, 9, 11 and 13. Suggestions are made for influencing the 3 categories distinguished of a) marginals, b) heavy drinkers and c) delinquents.
