A platoon of vehicles is considered in which random vehicle vehicles have a specific characteristics by which all following vehicles inside the platoon not possessing this characteristic are influenced to some degree. For a given platoon length, the probability of a specific number of vehicles being influenced, and the average number of influenced vehicles is evaluated. If the distribution of platoon length is known, the proportion of influenced vehicles within the entire traffic stream can be determine. For the case of a Borel-Tanner distribution of platoon length, an equation for this proportion is derived. In an example, the applicability of the analysis to practical problems is shown.
