A variety of institutions are involved in the practical application of road safety measures at a local level, and to differing degrees at each stage of the process. A compar- ison of French and German data reveals both differences and similarities in their respective approaches. In both cases, between 30 and 40% of the road safety measures implemented were subject to an evaluation. A campaign, recently launched in France:"Objective: 10% less"- is having the effect of making local authorities rethink their road safety policies.
