Relations between sign posting and accident occurrence on Federal motorways were analysed, and on motorways in the county of Lover Saxony. Defects in signs were correlated with relevant accidents. There was a statistically significant relation between defects in sign posting and the number of accidents at junctions and interchanges.This relation is independent of the type of structure and traffic volume.
