Samenvatting

The University of Minnesota's Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) Department with planning and technical support from the Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) contracted with a PB Farradyne led team in October 1996 to plan, then manage integrated deployment of several Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects. The primary UTIP objective is to improve the safety and efficiency of traffic, transit, cyclist, and pedestrian flow to, from, and through the area campuses. The secondary objective is to coordinate University transportation needs and solutions with Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT)'s state wide intelligent transportation infrastructure. UTIP is meeting these objectives by implementing technologies from operational tests, transit route redesign, new traveller sign systems, and an interested agency oversight committee.
