When a passenger car impacts an underride guard, the side members of the car's front end structure should hit upon the underride beam. Crash tests at around 50 km/h collision speed resulted in 20 cm larger deformation when the beam was attached at a height of 55 cm above the road as compared with 45 cm. Total deformations of the car and the underrider up to 90cm were obtained.
