The report describes an OECD study concerning housing conditions, employment accessibility, environmental nuisances and social and cultural aspects of an urban system. The object of the study was to propose a basic set of indicators describing the quality of man's urban environment. The study is discussed in the following sections:- part one - OECD urban indicators: a tool to assess the quality of man's urban environment. (1) Orientation, and (2) the set of concerns and indicators, introduction and tables of indicators. Part two - special meeting on urban environmental indicators. (1) Case studies on the use of urban indicators, and (2) case studies on the development of urban indicators. Sets of urban environmental indicators are shown to be useful to central and local authorities for the formulation of policies, the allocation of resources and for the appropriate information of groups involved.
