A series of slides is presented illustrating the growth of urban freight management in European cities. These address shared issues and perceptions; European data on urban goods movement; the relationship between urban freight and the type of activities located in a city; freight data for cities in France, London (UK) and Milan (Spain). Five policies for urban freight management in European cities are presented: unsuccessful attempts to develop urban distribution centres (the Munich City Logistik Zentrum in Germany), the use of intelligent technologies and access control systems, (trucks and vans in the London Congestion Charging Scheme, Barcelona's multi use streets), preventing old trucks from entering the city (the Green Certificate on Danish trucks), the need for new logistic services and logistic spaces in cities, and urban freight partnerships and urban freight transport plans.
