Samenvatting

This paper presents an overview of urban freight in Australia, from the perspective of transport planning and traffic engineering. It briefly reviews the role of freight and the dimensions of the urban freight task. Three significant changes in urban freight are identified and discussed; the increasing tendency to view goods transport as an integral part of a logistics management process; changes in vehicle technology; and increasing recognition of freight within the public planning and transport policy process.
