Samenvatting
A decision was made to produce an open urban traffic management and control (UTMC) specification that would provide a framework for the future development of UTMC systems for use in urban areas. This would enable open competition in supply of UTMC systems and services; thereby improve choice and cost effectiveness of solutions available to users. The paper: (1) outlines the range of potential functions within UTMC systems; (2) describes how UTMC systems will be delivered in practice; (3) outlines the key parts of the UTMC specification and how they will be used to procure, develop and expand UTMC systems; and (4) highlights benefits to UK suppliers and users of adopting the UTMC specification.
