Samenvatting

An analysis of lap-belt and shoulder-belt usage and effectiveness in rural Pennsylvania accidents is presented. Results obtained in this study show that safety belts are highly effective in reducing occupant injuries and fatalities. A discussion of ejection during the crash and its effect on injury rates is given. A model for estimating the extent and the significance of incorrect lap-belt usage reporting is developed.
