Samenvatting

Information from UK and abroad is reviewed to identify the measures that have been shown to be effective in reducing speeds. Only speed humps or very severe pinch points induce low mean speeds but other measures can be effective in reducing 85th percentile speeds. Conprehensive schemes in local streets can produce large proportionate reductions in accident numbers but do not make a large impact on accident totals.
